Brenda was born in Liverpool but spent much of her childhood in Hong Kong with her mother, two brothers and army officer father.

Brenda lives in Southport with husband Ken and two of her three children. Her two children are practicing solicitors and the third a music teacher in Manchester. She has six grandchildren between the ages of 5 – 13 years old.

She has lived in Southport for thirty years and is actively involved with her community being a founder member of Ainsdale Civic Society and a member of the Ainsdale Horticultural Society.

Prior to being elected as a local councillor Brenda's work was in management within charitable and religious organisations.
She enjoys entertaining being a trained cook and fundraising for worthy causes is still a priority.

Brenda's Experience

Elected in 2000 as an Ainsdale Ward Councillor with a majority of 3, this is currently 1800. 

In her capacity as a councillor she has been Chair of Licensing, Spokesperson on health and sat on environmental and social care scrutiny committees.

Became Conservative Chief Whip in 2005, becoming Deputy Leader in 2007.

As Cabinet Member for Communities Portfolio she is also Sefton Equalities Partnership Chairman.

Campaigns

Brenda led a 3 year campaign to secure funding and actively involved in repairing and refurbishing a run down building to establish a recreation centre. In partnership with police helped to reduce anti-social behaviour by 50% in the area.

She also investigated and wrote report on the need for a Dialysis Unit in Southport , secured council support and report forwarded to relevant medical organisations.  Dialysis Unit scheduled for September 2008.

Report supported local action groups and was acknowledged by Special Commissioning Unit as supportive of council for planned unit.

Brenda Actively campaigns within the community for a return of Children’s Accident and Emergency Unit to Southport having been transferred to Ormskirk
