North West Conservative "Blue Skies" Conference
![]() Blue Skies Conference Extract from my Speech to Conference:- Southport is a holiday resort with approximately 90,000 people and through its tourism it generates in excess of £200 million into Southport's economy. It has 6 Championship Golf Courses, including Royal Birkdale, within easy reach and is the location of the famous "Lord Street" shopping boulevard. Surrounding areas are well known in their own right with many areas of special scientific interest with rare and wonderful plant and animal wildlife. Employing over 10,000 people and welcoming over 10 million visitors a year our services are important to us. The loss of many of our hospital services including our Children's A & E and Women's Maternity Services has caused great concern. The lack of enough police on our streets, especially at night, when our entertainment zone is still very active because of this government's new licensing act, allowing 24 hour drinking and with many of the clubs open until 4/6am. So much under this government is proving detrimental to our wellbeing and it has to be put right. However Mr Haigh what I am asking of you today is that you will ensure a future Conservative Government will uphold our Military Covenant, this Government has abused its commitment to our military personnel and to us and our country. Another death of a British Soldier because of "unforgivable and inexcusable" failure to provide basic combat equipment, as reported by an Oxfordshire Coroner, is unacceptable. This is the message I bring from Southport where a large number of residents have contacted me raising their concerns on the current situation being reported in our national press. |
